Sports, a thing which is known by everyone but adapted by only a few. India is a land of diversity with various states and each state has its own set of games. So, there are many National and Regional sports which are being played by people all over India.

But, in India, the situation of sports is not very appreciative. Children and youth are refrained from taking up sports as a career. Even in schools, sports are not given much importance. Their only focus is on studies. Sports are considered only for leisure activities and something which will keep oneself fit, but opting for it as a career is a far cry. So the condition of sports is deteriorating in the country.

Why is this happening? Why are we lacking behind in sports despite so much potential and a huge population? Why do we get so fewer laurels in sports? Only a few medals in the Olympics and other nations as well as international games.

The reasons are many but amongst them, the most important one is our perspective towards sports. Children and youth are often refrained from taking up sports as a career saying ” There is no much scope”. Even schools and colleges to refrain them from taking up sports as a career.

Talking about infrastructure, the sports infrastructure is also quite poor in the country. Schools and colleges are lacking the appropriate equipment and infrastructure for practice. Studies are given so much emphasis that the students too get brainwashed. Even colonies and localities to lack the infrastructure for sports. It’s natural to blame the government for all this. But we as an individual what are we doing in this direction? Are we providing ample facilities for our kids? Are we doing the right thing for our future generations ? People are also not taking up their responsibilities. The overall developing of a child is not just mentally but also physically. This can be achieved only by engaging him in one of the sports. Sports are very crucial for us.

Sports not only keep you fit but also can get you recognition all over the world. You get a chance to represent your nation. Isn’t that just amazing?
