Nowadays, seeing someone wearing sunglasses in Sri Lanka is as ordinary as seeing someone wearing a scarf in the cold. Glasses are a tool that most people can use to improve their eyesight, regardless of their prescription or eye shape. It wasn't always like this, though.

Glasses took decades to emerge as a popular remedy for poor eyesight, with many bright innovators paving the way to the great vision you have today. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of spectacles? Here's a look back at how millions of people can now read the fanciest of books, drive during late nights and learn about the world’s fantasies.

During the 13th century, the first wearing glasses were discovered in Italy. Primitive glass-blown lenses were placed in wooden or leather frames or, on rare occasions, animal horn frames, and held in front of the face or perched on the nose. These were primarily employed by monks, although their use expanded as technology developed during the Renaissance.

Because the next known historical depiction of spectacles arrived around the 1700s, the technology may have stayed unchanged for several centuries. With the advent of temples that extended over the ears, glasses became “hands free.”

During the 1800s, as lens technology and accurate prescriptions became cheaper, there was a movement toward making glasses trendy and stylish. For consumers who desire glasses to match their face shape, eye colour or complexion.

Sunglasses were popular in the twentieth century. While sunglasses were invented in China in the 12th century, they were not designed for eyesight or sun protection. Instead, they were employed to hide the eyes of judges in court so that no one could tell what they were thinking.

In the 21st century, we have moved on from eyewear being simply as a means to cover your face, but to make a fashionable statement when you buy sunglasses online in Sri Lanka because eyewear can definitely transform your outfit from good to great.
