Looking for the best hair colour for me? Don't fret, there are many more shades of hair color to choose from than I used to find in salons. It has become a lot easier to buy online, where I can see the shades and try them on before buying them. But, what does it really mean to “shop online”?

It's fair to say that when it comes to colouring your hair, if you shop online, you get to compare prices and styles of many products you will find to suit you. Where you could have been paying $30+ per look, you may now find products on the internet for less than $10. Where you used to have to visit the salon to try out the new shades, today's celebrity hairdressers have introduced many of their latest creations right on their sites. Take a look, you'll find it easier to buy online than ever before.

But, like anything, the colour is more than just a word for colours. There is a list of terms to go with the colours and choosing the right one can be challenging. Here are some of the most common terms you should know about when buying your colour:

Deep Burgundy – This is probably the most famous and used term for colour that I use regularly. A deep burgundy can appear purple or pink depending on your skin tone, so you want to choose this shade carefully to suit your skin.

Brown – The colours you choose to match your skin tone are based on the colour of your skin. A lighter skin tone, will be a lighter shade of brown, so a brown shade for a darker skin tone will be deeper. Brown can also look olive, golden, or simply green or blue.

Oily – This shade is one of the most popular choices for women who have an oily face. Oily skin can take on a deep red or black tone, so these colours are perfect for those with oily skin. This doesn't mean you'll have to buy an oil-free formula, as some women can have dry skin, but you may need to experiment to find the shade that's right for you

Golden Brown – Just like brown, this is a deep shade of brown and can take on a pink, purple, or peach tone. This is great for those with yellow or orange skin, but avoid those with dark skin if possible.

These terms are easy to learn and remember when you're trying to find the most suitable shade for you. Once you've chosen the shade you love, you should be able to afford it easily online.
