Based on a system first developed by the GIANT Software Company, Window Defender is in-built antivirus software that was developed for use by any of its customers who are having a licensed version of the Windows Operating System.

Earlier known as Microsoft AntiSpyware, Microsoft Window Defender is Microsoft’s proprietary anti-malware component that is by default used in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. However, it was first released as a free-to-download free anti-spyware program for Windows XP and was later shipped with Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Since Windows 8, Microsoft added improved functionality to Windows Defender by adding antivirus protection, as well as spyware and other malware protection. The new version of Windows Defender offers a lot in terms of protection, performance, and usability.

Its new and improved version can now download new virus definitions through Windows updates, provide pretty good firewall protection, and on-demand scan for malicious programs, etc.
