Developed by Innersloth, Among Us is a multiplayer deduction game that was released two years ago. The game did well in some parts of the world like Korea and Brazil, but it remained in obscurity until earlier this year. The developers too were not hoping that the game was going to be wildly successful and it seemed they were right; however, they were happily surprised when the game grew exponentially in popularity a few months ago. It is rare for any game to garner so many active players in such a short period after it had been known very little for over two years. Among us is an exception in this regard as it came out of the blue to become one of the most popular games on the planet.

You can get the game for both PC and Android; although one has to shell out $5 to get it on Steam, it is free-of-cost on Google Play Store. The game has over a hundred million downloads which is an excellent achievement in itself. However, it also boasts a total of 3.5 million action players across all platforms, which is surprising for even the developers of the game.

Among Us is a simple game and anyone will get the hang of it in just a few minutes. The players are divided into two groups of – Imposter and Crewmates. The crewmates are tasked to identify the imposters and do several things around the map while the Imposters are supposed to conceal their identity and kill the Crewmates before they can do their tasks. If all the tasks are completed, or the Imposters are eliminated, then the Crewmates win. But if there are an equal number of Crewmates and Imposters, then Imposters are the winners. It can be played between 4-10 players both online or local, the person who hosts the game has the choice to decide the number of Imposters, however, one can’t get more than 3 of them.

The game is all about protecting yourself and your team as a Crewmate, while the Imposter needs to make sure they have the right strategy to take out their adversaries. Overall, it is a fun game, and its simplicity is the most significant factor that goes in its favor. Going by its recent records, it seems that the game will continue to grow and is not going to lose its popularity anytime soon. So, in conclusion, it does seem likely that Among Us is special because of simplistic gameplay and although the deceptions and politics involved in the game are fascinating, they are still not the primary reasons for the game’s success.
