BY Alex Penna – STUDIO KHORA

Studio KHORA believes that the form of contemporary houses should follow art. In defined contrast to modernist architecture, where it is believed form should follow function, we ascribe to the idea that in contemporary architecture, function best follows form. That form is but a symbol. And that a true architectural evolution means that form should follow contemporary art. And architecture. To become a movement that elevates practice and provokes a new standard of critical thinking. Consideration. Contemplation. For Miami Architects STUDIO KHORA, contemporary art is the elemental key to unlocking a new world of contemporary architecture. A world in which the architect may also influence contemporary art. Where achieving a higher-level mindset moves contemporary architecture to its own next level.

FORM FOLLOWS ART– BY STUDIO KHORA – G HOUSE

Contemporary art refers to art about today, created by living artists rather than a style or genre. It encompasses everything from paintings and photography to sculpture and design. The G House is following the sculptural design by Antony Gormley, a British contemporary artist, known for his public sculptures related to the nature of the space a human being inhabits. “We should follow contemporary art to improve the design of contemporary houses. [ Contemporary artists are more experimental and receive feedback sooner than architects do.] Penna.

Contemporary architecture is often characterized by its technology-enabled design of gravity-defying twisted buildings with a WOW factor – Such as VIA 57 West by BIG & BARCODE ARCHITECTS. But even in its most sculptural form, contemporary architecture still running in parallel to contemporary art.

The Modern Art movement is defined by the period from 1880 to 1970. Modern artists explored dreams, symbolism, abstraction, and personal iconography in their artwork. For example, the abstract impressionist, Jackson Pollock, introduced a unique concept of painting without touching a brush to canvas.

[ Just imagine if architects could lead a revolution in the contemporary art movement, as did Jackson Pollock.  Studio KHORA believes if that were to occur, contemporary architecture would immediately change for the better. ] Penna
