People who face societal challenges like dealing with unemployment, mental health or social or personal abuse end up their lives living in shelter homes. After they have recovered from those centers they always want to come back and become an active part of the society but many at times they find it a challenge to amalgamate to society once they were part of.

Therefore, the phase of transition is always a challenging part for people to overcome as they are want have lost social and emotional contacts and are also struggling to cope up with the mental and financial crisis. To overcome all these problems different welfare organizations are working day and night to help people regain their lost status and link with the world once they were part of.

Critical time intervention training is one of the most important and actively used strategies where the trainers aim at providing support and strengthen their confidence during their phase of transition when they step out of the rehabilitation centers, prisons or shelter and rescue homes.

There are at least 10 to 15 groups of people that are initially trained by the CTI trainers that help them to identify their issues, learn about strategies to cope with the problems and also helps them to understand that though they may be considered as one of the weakest links in the society the aim is to make them strong both emotionally as well as financially.

Thus, enabling them to grow more as productive individuals and allowing them to regroup their skills at the same time.

Another most important thing that CTI members aim to achieve is restricting the members of their team to falling back to the previous turmoil which has lead to their social seclusion as when they are not wholeheartedly accepted by society they often tend back to their fate for the fulfilment of their needs.

Thus, the whole purpose of rehabilitation, prison or foster care is lost.

Different phases of critical time intervention:

  • Phase I:

There are different phases of transition and in the first phase, the trainers often face many challenges as they are looking to work with the group of community members and there are often delays from prison release, coming out of shelter homes and alkies.

On the other hand, there are also people who have an early release and are anticipating the group to start but they are unable to join because the others are still waiting for their release. Thus, making it tougher for the trainers.

However, it is important to note that the first Phase is about knowing and developing a plan for three months. It is understanding the needs and requirements of the group that the CTI team is looking forward to training. Here, the trainers make frequent visits to the clients and make sure that they are able to devise a plan along with the support that is available to them at their homes.

  • Phase II:

Here, another transition is made and the strategies and plans that have been developed during the first phase now move to the phase of implementation and monitoring of the client. Where the trainers closely learn about the patterns of behavior and how they are reacting to the plan.

Moreover, the client now is asked to take responsibility for their own with the guidance and support of the caregivers. Thus, helping them to move a step forward when it is required the most.

  • Phase III:

This is the third and final phase, where the final transition is made and the client is transferred to the caregiver independently. In this phase, there are long term goals set up and ensure that there are no hassles in achieving those goals.

In the last phase of CTI training, the final meeting with the client is conducted to ensure that the decided plan is followed and the progress is being made by the client.

Thus, helping and mobilizing a plan to help the vulnerable members of the society to achieve long term and established positions in the community and avoiding them falling back to the same social and emotional turmoil.
