To be honest, cycling is as simple as walking but the benefits of cycling will leave you completely awe-struck, I am sure.  Exercising regularly is very good for your health, but did you realize what else it brings for you? Sore muscles, aching bones and pain in a few areas of the body, this is what getting in shape for an adult means and that is why we say cycling is the best sport ever. Cycling also known as bicycling or biking is not just a recreational activity, it is also a sport and an amazing exercise for your mind and body.

Though cycling is very common amongst the masses, it is yet to gain popularity as a sport. In this blog, Contino Bikes will be giving you insights about various cycling sports.

1. Road Racing:

Road racing is a traditional type of racing in which riders race with each other on their bicycles or bikes and the first one to reach the finish line is declared as the winner. This sport is generally played on the paved road. Road racing started as a well-structured sport in 1868 and the first-ever world championship took place in 1893. Soon after the first world road racing championship was organized, cycling entered the Olympics in 1895. The modern form of road racing is very different and it came into being only after the 19th century. Initial races like the Tour de France and Tour of Flanders laid the foundation of modern road racing around the world.

2. Cyclo-Cross:

Cyclo-cross emerged as bicycle or bike racing to keep the road racers fit during the cold off-season. This race is spread across many laps covering various terrains ranging from roads to steep climbs to off-camber sections and corners. The best-suited bicycles for this purpose are the multi-terrain bicycles which can help a racer ride a bicycle easily on roads as well as steep terrain. Racers can buy hybrid bikes and bicycles online in India. Mostly, cyclo-cross races are organized somewhere around autumn or in the winter whereas the world championship for the cyclo-cross is organized at the end of January.

3. Freestyle BMX:

Freestyle BMX is an extreme sport that is mainly performed on the five main disciplines of BMX racing i.e. park, flatland, trails, vert and street. It is one of the motocross stunts performed on the BMX bike. Freestyle BMX is a well-organized sport that requires a specific type of rules and skills. This support includes enormous air tricks that can be performed on a BMX bike. A BMX bike is quick, light and agile and is the most popular bike among the youth. Freestyle BMX is a popular sport that is played in many countries around the world.

4. Unicycling:

As the name suggests, unicycling is a sport involving a unicycle, a cycle with one wheel. The brands selling the best cycles and bikes in India also sell unicycles. A unicycle isn’t that common and mainly racers buy it for unicycle races. We have generally seen unicycling in carnivals which have been performed to entertain the audience but unicycling is also a sport. There are many types of unicycling such as giraffe unicycling, freestyle unicycling, mountain unicycling, long separation unicycling and trail unicycling.

5. Skibobbing:

Now we are at the most amazing cycling sport, Skibobbing. Skibobbing is a winter sport and the first-ever Skibob race was organized in the early 1950s. Skibob is a bicycle-like frame attached to a set of skis. It emerged from the idea of cycling along with the skis. Skibobbing is also known as Ski biking or Snow biking. Skibobbing started as a sport for those who have weak knees but it later gained popularity amongst the physically fit individuals as well. In a ski bobber race, a course generally  3 to 5km long is run by the ski bobbers. You know the drill right? Whoever finishes first wins the race.
