Psychology is a broad field that can lead to a variety of different careers.

Studying how people think and act is called psychology. Everything from genetic makeup to peer pressure to the kind of air we breathe all have a role in shaping how we feel and what we do.

By studying health psychology in greater depth, one might get insight into one's own behavior and develop empathy for others.

It is challenging to provide a succinct explanation of psychology since it aims to comprehend, predict, and explain such a wide range of phenomena as development, personality, thought, feeling, emotion, motivation, and social behavior.

Categories in Psychology

Understanding how people think, feel, and act, as well as how they grow and change over time, is just a small part of what psychologists research. This has led to the development of numerous sub-disciplines and specialized sectors. The following are examples of some of psychology's most important subfields:

Psychopathology and aberrant behavior are the focus of abnormal psychology. This branch of psychology is associated with psychotherapy and clinical psychology and focuses on the study and care of a wide range of mental health conditions.

The field of study known as “biological psychology” (or “biopsychology”) investigates the impact that organisms have on the functioning of the human brain and nervous system. This subfield relies heavily on neuroimaging techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) to study brain damage and anomalies.

Clinical psychologists evaluate patients, identify and then treat mental health issues.

In cognitive psychology, we investigate how we think, with a focus on how we pay attention, store information in memory, form and evaluate judgments, solve problems, and learn new languages, among other cognitive functions.

The field of research known as “comparative psychology” examines human and nonhuman animal behavior side by side.

Cognitive skills, morality, social skills, and identity are only few of the many aspects of human life that developmental psychologists study.

The area of forensic psychology applies psychological theory and study to the criminal justice system.

To improve productivity in the workplace and in the hiring process, psychologists have developed the field of industrial-organizational psychology.

How one's unique set of cognitive processes, actions, and qualities come to be is the primary emphasis of personality psychology.

Attitudes, bias, conformity, violence, and other related problems are central to the field of social psychology.
