Demon Slayer made its debut in 2019, and in just one year, the anime has become a sensation. Its sudden rise to popularity has sparked debates. The show’s fans are confident that it is the best Shonen anime of the decade, while the critics believe it is too early to say anything. While the debate is certainly interesting, one can’t deny the fact that Demon Slayer is a great show. Its animation, storytelling, and character development, everything is spot on. Therefore, it is not surprising that the show has amassed millions of fans all over the world in such a short time.

The most intriguing aspect of the show that has won over so many fans is its cast. Demon Slayer has some great characters that quickly form a bond with the viewers. Every one of them is unique, so most viewers end up finding a character that they can resonate with. Even characters like Nezuko, who barely spoke throughout the series, have her fanbase. Its therefore possible that most viewers are overlooking the fact that Demon Slayer’s characters are extraordinarily likable and relatable. Maybe that is why it has become so popular all of a sudden. Today we look at some of these characters to understand what makes them unique.

Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku is the Flame Hashira from the Demon Slayer Corps. He is very strict when it comes to discipline and justice. His strong moral compass and a rigid idea of right or wrong make him one of the most fearsome Demon Slayer. He is dedicated to helping the weak and needy. Rengoku also has a strong code of honor, and he detests the cruelty of the demons. His mother has a long-lasting impression on his values, and Rengoku has been very careful about upholding principles taught by her. Most demon slayers love him since he is friendly, kind with a strong moral code that they wish to emulate. Rengoku is an ideal example for the younger demon slayers who want to one day be as strong as the Hashira.

Kanao Tsuyuri

Like most characters on the show, Kanao has a tragic past that has shaped her personality and beliefs. She is aloof and prefers to be quiet. However, as she realizes that the demons are hurting her loved ones, she starts hating them. Even though she is expressionless most of the time, while fighting demons, she shows her sadistic side. Kanao is exceptional as she has lived with Hashira ever since she was a young girl; therefore, it would be a huge mistake to underestimate her combat skills.

Giyu Tomioka

Giyu likes keeping to himself and remains expressionless on most occasions. He is an extremely strict and reserved person. Although he might never admit it himself, but Giyu is compassionate and caring. He was one of the few people who stood by Tanjiro when he asked for the permission of the Demon Slayer Corps to keep her sister with him. In fact, he was the first person to meet Tanjiro and Nezuko after their family was attacked. He played a crucial role in Tanjiro’s journey to become a demon slayer. Despite being one of the Hashira who is strict about the Demon Corps’ rules, Giyu has often stood up for others even if it meant that he had to break some rules.

Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke is one of the most entertaining characters of Demon Slayer. He has been raised by boars ever since he was a child, which explains his eccentric nature. Although it is true that Inosuke is overconfident and does not consider the possibility of defeat, it must be remembered that his fighting prowess must not be underestimated. His recklessness often lends him in dangerous situations. His prideful nature makes him very sensitive to criticism, and he also struggles to deal with defeat. Irrespective of everything, at the end of the day, Inosuke fights for the greater good.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

It would be wrong to talk about entertaining and funny characters without mentioning Zenitsu. He is afraid of challenges and tries to avoid fighting. However, despite his cowardice, Zenitsu has a deep desire to become a Demon Slayer. Watching Zenitsu cry and run away from challenges might give the impression that he isn’t a good fighter. Still, when the situation demands, he shows unexpected bursts of determination, strength, and courage.

Nezuko Kamado

When Tanjiro’s family was attacked, only Nezuko survived. Unfortunately, she turned into a demon. Being a half-demon and half-human gives her the abilities and emotions from both sides, which makes her an interesting character. Most fans love her for showing courage and compassion whenever a demon tried to attack either his brother or any other human being. It is her protective nature for those around her and her love for Tanjiro that makes Nezuko so popular with the fans.

Tanjiro Kamado

It is not a surprise that the protagonist, Tanjiro, is the most popular character on the Demon Slayer. He is a dedicated fighter who works tirelessly to become a strong Demon Slayer. Even though he has to kill demons, when they are about to die, he can see the bigger picture and understand the pain that they have been through. It is his compassion that makes him different from all characters on the show. Even though most of them are caring, no one except Tanjiro understands the pain, the demons go through.
