These grades are also resistant to sulfidation and can withstand reasonable amounts of carburizing and oxidizing atmospheres. However, the superior resistance to high temperatures should be considered when determining the material's use.
310 is an austenitic stainless steel with medium carbon content. It can resist oxidation at temperatures up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite its low carbon content, it retains a larger portion of its room temperature strength than Type 304. 310S has lower magnetic permeability than 304. Unlike 304, 310 is also used for cryogenic environments. Besides, it offers high ductility and weldability, allowing its use in a wide variety of applications.
Forging and cold forming are also possible. Type 310/310S is readily fabricated using standard commercial methods. This steel can be welded using standard welding processes. Cold-forming can be used to join pieces of 310/310S together. It is also easy to weld and can be formed using standard methods. However, it does require extra steps.
