Twitter’s “You might be interested in” block may sometimes become annoying for the users. No one would ever want their Twitter feeds to be filled up with profiles of other individuals. Unfortunately, there is no master switch to disable the “You might be interested in” block; however, you may get a workaround if you go deep into Twitter’s Privacy Settings. This article has also listed some keywords that can be blocked to filter out even more unnecessary content for your Twitter feeds.

The Muted Words Trick

First, open the Twitter app on your device, tap on the icon of your profile, and go to the “Settings & Privacy.” Further, select “Privacy & Safety” and scroll below to “Muted words” appearing under Safety.

To do it through your PC, open your Twitter account on your web browser, and then you need to go to more settings by clicking on the three dots menu appearing under the image of your profile. Further, you have to choose “Muted words” under the “Mute and block” option, and then tap on the “+” icon, and then add those words that you wish to block.

Please be noted that only one phrase, username, or word can be added at a time. You may use some of the below-mentioned keywords that might prevent the “You might be interested in” suggestions from appearing in your feeds.

  1. suggest_recap
  2. suggest_who_to_follow
  3. suggest_recycled_tweet
  4. suggest_activity_tweet
  5. suggest_pyle_tweet
  6. share_tweet_to_pocket
  7. suggest_ranked_timeline_tweet

Remove All Push Notifications

Luckily, you have an option to remove all the push notifications, but again this method might not entirely prevent the push notifications from appearing on your screen. However, we have mentioned the steps with which you can try disabling the push notifications.

  1. Visit “Settings & Privacy” and go to “Notifications.”
  2. Tap on the “Push notifications” appearing under “Preferences.”
  3. Further, click on the button present next to the “Push notifications,” and all the notifications will get disabled.
  4. If you are using an iOS device, tap on the settings “Go to iOS” to disable all the notifications from there.
  5. Again, switch to the “Notifications Preferences” option.
  6. Further, tap on the “Email notifications” option.
  7. Then turn off the button appearing adjacent to “Email notifications,” and all your email notifications will be disabled.

The Advanced Filters Trick

The “Quality filter” helps prevent the display of subpar content in your feeds. It comes pre-enabled on Twitter on the installation of the app; however, the Advanced filter options come disabled by default.

So, you need to click on the “Advanced Filters” option under Notifications and enable each option. Doing this might not get you rid of the “you might be interested in” section. Still, it will help filter out the profiles and tweets which are most annoying, according to its user base.

Your Twitter Data

If you want better access to this option, you need to login into your Twitter account through your desktop. Even though you can access this option through mobile devices, you still need to login into your account through your mobile browser.

Tap on the “Settings & Privacy,” then press “Account.” Further click on “Your Twitter Data” appearing under the “Data & Permissions.” Further tap on “Interests & Ads Data,” you will then be provided three options – “Tailored Audiences,” “Inferred Interests from Partners,” “Interests from Twitter.” Go to each option and make the required customizations to the gathered data under each of the three menus. This might bring you very near to disabling, “you might be interested in.”

Disable All Personalization and Data

Twitter might be drawing information from your data tabs, location, browsing history, and more so that the platform may provide a  greater amount of personalized content with the help of the information gathered by it. This may easily populate your “you may be interested in” list.

So, you need to disable it by going to the “Settings & Privacy,” further select “Privacy & Safety,” and then click on “Personalization & Data.” The option “Allow All” is already set to default. You need to then click on the master button appearing adjacent to the “Personalization and Data” option. Further, you need to confirm by clicking on “Allow” on the pop-up window. That’s it; the app would not keep any tabs upon your activities from now on. This might not completely disable the “you might be interested in” section from your feeds, but it will prevent some activities.

So, this was all about how you may prevent showing some part of the “You might be interested in” section of Twitter. It is hard to disable the action entirely because it provides a better experience based upon the preferences. The new users would no doubt be impressed with it. But if you are a regular user, it might annoy you at times.
