I feel like Instagram has become really predictable lately.
You open the app and within a few seconds you see the same type of Reel, the same editing style, the same trending audio and basically the same joke rewritten ten different ways. The best digital marketer in Calicut probably notices this too because keeping up with trends has become such a huge part of social media.
But here is the funny part. The best digital marketer in Calicut knows that following every trend does not necessarily make content interesting. Sometimes the posts that actually catch my attention are the ones that feel completely different.
I think the solution is not to completely ignore trends either. Trends can definitely help a post reach more people. The trick is to use the trend as a starting point instead of copying the exact thing everyone else is doing.
Use the popular audio, but say something people actually relate to. Take the familiar format and give it your own experience. Even a small change in perspective can make a recycled idea feel new.
People do not necessarily want something they have never seen before. They just want to see it in a way they have not seen before.
I think this is where a lot of creators get stuck. They see a Reel getting millions of views and immediately try to figure out what made it successful. Then they recreate the same structure, use the same audio and sometimes even copy the same opening line.
It makes sense from a numbers perspective. If something worked for someone else, why would you not try it too?
The problem is that by the time hundreds of people have copied it, the original idea has already lost some of its magic.
It is like hearing the same joke from five different people. The first person might make you laugh. By the fifth person, you already know the punchline.
Social media works in a similar way. People scroll through so much content every day that they become very good at recognizing patterns. They know when a video is going to turn into another sales pitch. They recognize the usual hooks. They know when someone is clearly copying a popular format.
That does not mean trends are useless. I actually think trends are useful when you treat them like ingredients rather than a complete recipe.
Take a trending sound and connect it to something specific to your personality. Take a popular format and apply it to an experience from your own life. Even better, take an idea everyone is talking about and give an opinion that people did not expect.
That is where personality comes in.
You can have the same camera, the same audio and the same editing style as someone else, but your perspective is something they cannot copy.
And honestly, that might be the easiest way to make social media less boring.
Instead of asking, “What is everyone posting right now?” maybe ask, “What would I post if I was not worried about whether it would perform?”
Sometimes that answer is probably more interesting.
Because trends can get people to notice you.
But having your own voice is what gives them a reason to remember you.
