Reece James
Reece James has been with Chelsea since the age of six. Two-time FA Youth Cup winner, two-time Premier League Under-18 champion, Toulon Tournament winner, Toulon Tournament team, Toulon Tournament final player, European Under-19 Championship winner, his youth career has been a prestigious one.
But it was a loan spell at Wigan in 2018/19 that gave the Cobham graduate his first taste of senior football, and the arrival of Frank Lampard at Chelsea gave him a shot at his boyhood club. Since then, he has not looked back, establishing himself as a key player.
The play style of Reece James
Reece James has played on the right side of the back three, as a full-back, full-back and even as an all-around midfielder at Wigan, and the same has become a reality since he moved to the Chelsea first team. he is an extremely versatile defensive piece.
Physically, James is stocky, strong, and relentless. He moves fast enough to be feared and also combines strength that makes him a powerful runner. His stamina means that he can reach the same speed from the first minute to the last, and also allows him to attack the penalty area from time to time, knowing that he can cover the ground behind him.
He is great at passing the ball, his ability to find teammates on the run from dead ball situations makes his distribution arguably his biggest advantage. He has a catalog of various box deliveries, using his strong technique to whip all sorts of crosses into dangerous areas. On defense, his athleticism allows him to cover large spaces behind the defense, and his physicality is a huge advantage in one-on-one duels. Overall, James is a versatile defender.
Trevoh Chalobah
Trevoh Chalobah may have broken into the Chelsea senior team a little earlier, but three loans in adulthood have served him well. Two spells in the league, in addition to his 2020/21 season in France with Lorient, saw him become a dominant player in midfield or a central defender in a trio.
He may have been a little lucky to have become an integral part of Chelsea's senior team, but Chalobah is still on the fringes of the team and dependent on other players who can't score minutes.
Trevoh Chalob's style of play
Chalob has some restrictions on the ball. He struggles to progress in the game with his passing, which is problematic when playing in the midfield of a big team. Likewise, handling the ball in traffic isn't one of his strengths either.
This really gives him a higher ceiling as a centre-back. From there, these restrictions are less problematic, and his ability to quickly and actively carry the ball into space comes to the fore. Whether he plays in midfield or defence, Chalobah is an elite ball carrier who uses his incredible athletic profile to make him uncomfortable off the ball.
He's also quick, agile and reliable in tight situations – the perfect profile for being the most aggressive defender in the back three who will get out of line and put pressure on the ball carrier. But similarly, when playing in midfield, he can be as aggressive as he wants to be, turning him into a huge roadblock for opposing teams trying to advance the ball.
Callum Hudson-Odoi
Callum Hudson-Odoi's inevitable transformation into a top-tier talent has been clear for some time now. Chelsea's dominance at youth level and the Under-17 World Cup title as a key player in one of the most influential international youth teams in recent history underlined this. Since then, a patchy injury history has been the only thing that has threatened to derail his progress.
A move to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2022 looks like a good springboard for resurrecting his career, gaining valuable first team minutes in an exciting squad; some continuity that he always lacked on the fringes of the Chelsea first team.
Callum Hudson-Odoi’s style of play
Hudson-Odoi is elite or near-elite in a number of categories. But above all, he is incredibly good with the ball, whether it's rushing into space in transition or beating a dribbler. For more know about Football World Cup Tickets.
It is important to note that when he does this, he can continue into the final third and be extremely dangerous, proving that he is a skilled progressive and creative passer as well as a good scorer during his play at youth level. At the senior level, performance has declined as he continues to play in more low-profile roles with fewer opportunities to move forward.
While an advantage for most players, Hudson-Odoi's versatility has been a key factor holding back his return to Chelsea. However, Thomas Tuchel's insistence on playing as a full-back has subsided in 2021/22 and the Englishman has returned to his best, playing predominantly on the left.
Tariq Lamptey
Although Chelsea have had more success in bringing young players from the academy into the first team in recent years, there will be many players who decide to leave the club. Tariq Lamptey is one of them. He joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the winter of 2020 and his decision to leave Chelsea is fully justified.
Away from Stamford Bridge, Lamptey was able to break into a Premier League team and establish himself as one of the league's most interesting young players. His only concern was constant injury problems that prevented him from playing consistently by the minute.
Tariq Lamptey’s style of play
As a diminutive player, Lampty will always fight body to body, but he's built his game around his best quality: his electric pace. His speed allows him to command the entire right flank, making straight runs into the opposing full-back near the box on one side before recovering just as quickly to intervene near his own box.
He is already well versed in tactics, working in Brighton's three-man defensive system, recognizing when he has cover to move forward and stretch the field, or when he needs to cover and provide defensive cover himself.
Perhaps his best defensive attribute is the amount of cover he can provide for his team when they have set-piece attack positions. In situations like this it is very difficult to launch straight balls to counter Brighton because Lamptey can cover the ground so quickly.
With the ball at his feet, he can be a bit sloppy. However, his directness constantly puts defenders in stressful situations when they risk scoring penalties. Due to his superior agility when moving at speed, it is very difficult to handle him cleanly.
Noni Madueke
Former Tottenham Hotspur academy player Noni Maduke has had a brilliant start to life as a professional footballer, quickly establishing himself in the Dutch youth football circuit since his arrival in 2019.
Madueke has made it abundantly clear with his dynamism on straight lines, strong ball-handling ability for his age and ability to turn dominance with the ball into real opportunities that he is ready for first-team football. At PSV, Madueka was used as a right winger or right winger, often off the bench, to highlight his outstanding physique.
Noni Madueke’s style of play
He has high dribbling potential, makes smart decisions that often result in goals or assists, and has a good command of his technical ability even when moving at pace. Combined with his natural athleticism, Madueke can play in multiple positions and formations, though against the high lanes he will naturally be the most devastating.
For such a young player, the core qualities that often develop a little later, such as a polished technique for hitting the ball from good places and the ability to overcome numerous obstacles, are already present. If he continues to add to the building blocks that currently help him become one of the most explosive Eredivisie players, there is nothing to indicate that he cannot be a striker of the caliber of the top five leagues.
