A trek doesn’t become a good trek simply because it has a famous name.
Everest Base Camp is an iconic high-altitude trek in Nepal, with the standard route involving gradual ascent and acclimatisation before reaching Base Camp. The Nepal Tourism Board describes the journey from Lukla through places such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche.
Annapurna Base Camp offers a different Himalayan experience, reaching around 4,130 m and passing through changing landscapes before entering the Annapurna Sanctuary.
So which one should you choose?
That depends on you.
At Trekkers@heart, we help trekkers understand the demands of a trek before they commit to it. We look at your existing experience, fitness, walking habits and the characteristics of the route to help assess whether the difficulty is appropriate.
And preparation doesn’t stop at fitness.
A trekker heading to Nepal needs to think carefully about footwear, layering, backpacks, hydration and other equipment. The gear that works perfectly for a local Singapore walking trail may not be the best choice for a multi-day Himalayan trek.
That’s why we help trekkers select gear according to the destination, conditions and duration of the trek.
But you don’t have to dream about the Himalayas to benefit from proper preparation.
You can build experience on Singapore’s many trails and routes before progressing to more demanding adventures. NParks, for example, lists MacRitchie routes ranging from easy walks to moderate, difficult and moderate-to-difficult trails.
And when you’re ready to go further, options such as Gunung Pulai in Johor, a Bromo tour or a Mount Batur Bali hike can offer different levels of terrain and challenge.
At Trekkers@heart, we help you make that progression sensibly.
Because the right question isn’t, “What’s the hardest trek I can do?”
It’s “What’s the right trek for me—and how do I prepare for it?”
