Rishikesh, a small village in Uttarakhand in the northern part of India, is known as the “State of Uttarakhand”. It is located at the confluence between the Ganga-Yamuna rivers at an elevation of approximately 3,000 feet. Tourists who wish to practice yoga or meditation love this town. Rishikesh also has a number ashrams and temples that make it an important religious centre for Hindus. Rishikesh's history can be traced back as far as the Vedic period when it was called Khemavati. The town was a major stop on the 1970s and 1960s hippie trail. Rishikesh today is a vibrant community that welcomes people from all parts of the globe.
