It will be an amazing vacation if you are flying out to La Paz, Mexico as the city is known for its fantastic beaches and desert-sea landscapes.  La Paz the 4th largest city in Mexico is famous for its beaches, Malecon or the board walkway along bay of La Paz, oversized whales and sharks and the opportunity to swim with gigantic sea lions. La Paz is not just a beach holiday but also a city that has historical facts to tell. The airport to La Paz is just 20 minutes from the city center but if you are flying out from north or North West you first will have to go to Mexico and then reroute to La Paz International Airport.  However you have direct flights operating from American Airlines from South side of USA. The tourist attraction of La Paz revolves around sea waters, marine life, Desert Mountains surrounding the city and wildlife. The famous walkway along the La Paz measuring 5 kilo meters is the main attraction because here is where you see kaleidoscope of people coming from different countries co-walk with you. The entire Malecon or the board walkway is interspersed with giant statues of marine life and you can either walk the sidewalk admiring both the sea and the line of La Paz sunset bars.  These bars are called sunset bars because you can watch the amazing La Paz sunset sitting from one of these bars.

Walk the Maleocon

Apart from Malecon where the restaurants provide entertainment in the form of live rock bands and their exclusive services like expat and sports bars. You can venture out to Balandra beach which is known as the best beach in entire Mexico or state of Baja California Sur.  Balandra beach is located at a 30 minutes drive from La Paz city and taxis, public transport and private cars are available for the trip. Beauty of Balandra is that it has shallow water at the front and the tide is at low ebb sand dunes appear magically that you can fathom by walking the water. This way you can go to different beaches that Balandra bay consists of. The magic of Balandra is that both desert sand and sea water merge here at the backdrop of Desert Mountains. No wonder adventurous tourists come here to sand surfing.  You can have a quality sightseeing time here as many kayaks and canoes are floating in the water and in between mangrove cluster.

Swim with sea lions at Espiritu Santo Island

The third important excursion in La Paz can be the visit to island of Espiritu Santo which is also totally uninhabited island and is the home for rare and amazing flora and fauna. It is the jewel of Sea of Cortez and you will find several tours being organized by operators at La Paz. Only way to reach the island is by boat and it will take about an hour to reach the island. It should be noted that the island is protected by UNESCO AS World Heritage Island.  The island also gives access to other islands nearby and you can stop at one island such as Los Islotes where you can watch or swim with playful sea lions. You can also snorkel the coral reef and explore the rare marine life that usually inhabit coral reefs over the world. In between you can have a ceviche lunch on the sandy beach and then go on to paddleboard or kayaking. You can join environment friendly Baja Expeditions to visit the various beaches and islands as they are especially established to protect the Baja eco-system.

Watch La Paz sunsets from Cerro de la Calavera

La Paz sunsets are globally acclaimed and most people go through the experience from the Malecon where they take asylum in the Beach Bars La Paz. It is also the nearest point close to the city and also most populated with tourists. But you can enjoy unique and spectacular sunsets from Cerro de la Calavera. It is a small rocky hill and you can reach there by bike and walk up towards the hill summit to book your vantage place. It is a fantastic view from the hill and you can see the entire Bay Of La Paz from here and the sight of dipping sun in to the water is spectacular.

Explore more beaches

Like Playa Balandra there are more beaches in La Paz you can explore as they are equally important tourist attraction. Each of these beaches can differ in character and may present you with unique landscape and sand dunes and mountain cover. The waters of Bay of La Paz are of calm and quiet quality thus makes most tranquil beaches in the world. The beaches near Marina de La Paz being close to the town is always crowded with boats so it is better to move away from the main thoroughfare and to the other beaches that are strewn around the bay of La Paz.
