Rarely, the compressor can knowledge a valve failure. In cases like this, it will both stay there and seem to perform happily but will push no substance (valve won't close), or it'll lock up as a result of an inability to move the substance out from the pressure chamber (valve won't open). When it is working happily, then once you've recognized that there is indeed plenty of freon in the machine, but nothing is moving, you then don't have any choice but to improve the compressor. Today, if the compressor is mechanically closed up it could be due to several things. If the compressor is on a heat pump, make sure the treating device isn't stuck half way. Also make sure the expansion device is working; if it is blocked it can lock the compressor. Also make certain the filtration isn't clogged. I when found a system that had a closed compressor due to liquid lock. Some idiot had “serviced” the machine by the addition of freon, and introducing freon, and introducing freon before point was totally high in liquid. Trust in me; that does not work.
Must diagnosis display a blocked filtration, then this should be taken as good proof of some failure in the machine OTHER when compared to a compressor failure. On average, it will undoubtedly be material fragments from the compressor that blocks the filter. This may only happen if something is inducing the compressor to use very rapidly, especially in the pistons, the bands, the bores, and the bearings. Both the compressor has greatly inadequate lubrication OR (and more commonly) water freon is getting into the compressor on the suction line. This conduct must be stopped. Consider the expansion device and at the curing valve (for a heat pump).
