FIFA World Cup: Earlier polish independence in 1918

Earlier polish independence in 1918, the Polish territories were controlled by 3 different empires. Split up between the German Empire, Austria-Hungary and the Russian Empire, Poland faced significant oppression under the rule of foreign kings and managements. Though, other sources mention a Dr Edmund Cenar as the transporter of the first ball and the one to translate the Cambridge Rules of the game to the Polish language. The base of this team was students of the Jan Sobieski Gymnasium. By the autumn of 1906, there were 16 squads in Krakow. By 1911, the Union of Polish Football World Cup for Galicia was created and entered into the Austrian Football Association. In 1914, World War I broke out, which pulled many football players away to contest. Maximum Galician players of the resident clubs went to join Pilsudski’s Polish Military. Their 1st international win would come a year later in contradiction to Sweden, with a score of 2-1.

The Polish side joined FIFA, the leading body of international football, in 1923 meaning they could now play in contests like the European Championship or the FIFA World Cup. Poland was capable of their 1st Cup in 1937 and secured their place in the 1938 Cup in France. Unfortunately, this tournament would be the last international game the team would play for a while. The assault on Poland in September 1939 destined the close of Polish football.
