Forklift operator training is essential to the safety of workers. New Zealand has a code of practice that specifies how to operate forklifts, and a certificate from an approved training provider is necessary to work on the machinery. The training course comprises a four-hour theory session and a ten-minute practical session. It can also be held at the workplace if more than four operators are taking the course.

To be eligible for a certificate in forklift operation, you must have completed a training course from a Work safe-approved provider. The certificate is valid for three years and is equivalent to a driver's license with no expiry date. In addition, a forklift driver must have a valid driver's license and a special endorsement (F) on his or her license. In New Zealand, the certificate is valid for three years.

The course duration is four to eight hours. Trainees with some previous knowledge of forklifts may complete the course in less time. The instructor conducting the course will decide on the timeframe. If you're a beginner, you may opt for a two-day course, or a six-week course, or even a longer period. It all depends on your experience and your confidence level. The course will take place on a Monday-Thursday basis. The course begins at 9am sharp. Participants are expected to wear suitable clothing and footwear.

In order to become a forklift operator, you must first be a driver license class 1 or higher. To obtain an ‘F' endorsement, you must have NZQA unit standard 18496. This course requires supervised time on a forklift. The training certificate is valid for three years. However, if you need to renew it sooner or later, contact the NZTA for details.

There are two main courses for forklift operator training Nz. The basic training course usually lasts two to three days. During this course, trainees have to maneuver a forklift around obstacles and stack and destock loads from different heights. The course duration depends on the trainee's level of skill and the type of forklift they are operating. Upon completion, they'll receive a certificate indicating the forklift capability they've acquired. This license is valid for three years.

In addition to forklift operator training, a business owner or operator can also undertake a health and safety audit if required. The course is often complemented by in-house instruction and assessment by a suitably qualified individual. The certification is required by Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 clause 226(4). The health and safety outcome of a forklift operator training course must be met or exceeded in order to qualify for this.

Forklift operators are required by law to have a Forklift Operator Certificate NZ or an F endorsement on their license. If a forklift operator is not trained, the lack of proper training can adversely affect a company's materials management, stock warehousing, and dispatch services. It's also advisable to provide refresher training to employees who have not been properly trained. In addition to reducing the risk of accidents and fines, forklift operators have a wealth of benefits.
