Thankfully, Google Chrome understands this and lets you import and export the bookmarks to make them accessible on other browsers and devices. Export and Import Bookmarks in Chrome Using the HTML File
- You can easily manage your bookmarks in Chrome using the Bookmark Manager, which can be accessed via the triple-dot menu located at the top-right.
- You will now come across a list of all the bookmarks stored in Chrome. Find the triple-dot menu towards the top-right of this screen and click on “Export bookmarks.”
- This will save all your Chrome bookmarks on your laptop or PC in the form of an HTML file. Make sure that you save this HTML file containing your Chrome bookmarks in an easily accessible and memorable folder like “Downloads.”
- Emailing this file to yourself is also a good idea, given that the size of the file is supportable. By doing so, you will be able to restore the bookmarks on Chrome of this device to another device.
- Else, you can upload this HTML file on cloud storage like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
- To import these bookmarks to another browser window, open Chrome on your destination device.
- Then click the triple-dot menu, followed by “Import bookmarks.”
- Now, select the option that says, “Import HTML files,” and click “Import.”
- All of your previous bookmarks saved in the HTML file will be displayed below the Imported bookmarks section.
Importing Bookmarks on Chrome to Microsoft Edge
Importing Chrome bookmark onto the Microsoft Edge browser is not a difficult task.
- All you need to do is open the Edge’s browser and click on the triple-dot menu followed by “Settings.”
- From the list of options that appears, select “Import browser data.”
- Now, tick mark the items you want to import from Google Chrome. These items can include browsing history, bookmarks, favorites, saved passwords, and a lot more.
- If you want to use the HTML file you created when you were saving bookmarks on Chrome, you can click on the “favorites or bookmarks HTML file” option.
This should import the Chrome bookmarks’ HTML file to the Edge’s bookmark list.
Import Bookmarks on Chrome to Other Chromium Browsers
Chromium browsers other than Edge have slightly different features that might not include the option to import bookmarks using HTML files. Like Slimjet, to import Chrome bookmarks or other data, you need to use the feature named “Google Smarts.” This feature has an option called “Turn on Sync,” enabling which you can directly import the data you want. All you need is your Google account.
Turn Sync On to Access Chrome Bookmarks with All the Devices
- Start by opening the Chrome browser window and click on the “person” icon located towards the right corner.
- Here you can give a name to your Chrome profile. Also, you can add a shortcut to your desktop for this profile.
- Now, login with your Gmail account and click on the option named “Yes, I’m in” when asked to “Turn on Sync.”
This should allow you to access your Chrome data on all other devices. Every time you open Chrome on other devices using your Google account, your data will start importing automatically. This makes syncing the most effective and non-repetitive way to import and export Chrome bookmarks.
