1) Why do foundations appeal to your organization's fundraising strategy?
Family foundations are one form of foundation that Special Olympics Florida is interested in in a state where there are many private, public, and corporate foundations. “I feel like you get to have a real conversation,” adds Janice. A true connection, not a grant transaction, is made with the family foundation through conversations about particular programmes and requirements of the Special Olympics. We certainly need to raise money, but our main goal is to build relationships with individuals.

2) Describe a noteworthy project or initiative that has received funding from foundations.
Janice cites two initiatives made feasible by foundation funding. First, a $10,000 grant from a local family foundation was utilised to begin the Healthy Community programme in Jacksonville, with the only requirement that the money be used locally.
The foundation extended its commitment for an additional year since they were pleased with the program's effectiveness. Thanks to a $10,000 grant from another foundation that allowed Special Olympics to concentrate on outreach to young parents rather than simply children, the number of athletes supported by the Young Athletes programme doubled in just one year, from 8,000 to 16,000 participants.
