ORIGIN OF HARDSTONE
Freestone is a limestone with a distinct blue-grey color. You can often see the remains of the skeletons of marine animals that lived in shallow seas millions of years ago in the bluestone. When they died, their skeleton was left behind on the bottom and together with the lime deposit that stuck it all together, the blue stone layer formed over time.
TYPES OF HARDSTONE
One of the most famous types is bluestone, also known as bluestone or petit granit. The same layer from which the freestone is extracted, comes up again after hundreds of kilometers underground. This bluestone has a slightly finer structure and the fossils are generally smaller and more evenly distributed.
