Hatshepsut Temple Egypt is one of the many ancient Egyptian sites that can still be visited today. A visit to this place is a must if you are an Egyptologist or an enthusiast. The Temple of Hatshepsut, dedicated to Hatshepsut, is a spectacular monument built during the reign of Pharaoh Hatshepsut. It is often considered to be a magnificent masterpiece of classic architectural design. Its three huge monumental terraces rise dramatically above the dry desert sands below and toward the majestic cliff line. At each corner of these three large buildings there are exquisite stone carvings depicting scenes from Hatshepsut's past.

Hatshepsut was the wife of the celebrated King Menes of Egypt. It is believed that Hatshepsut was the builder of this temple with the assistance of her son Menes. In addition to the Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as the Grand temple of Deir el-Bahar, there is another important temple located on the site, the Temple of Hatshepsut. This is the main holy temple of all Egypt and is known to have played an important role in the history of both Egypt and Karnak.

The earliest reference to the Hatshepsut temple comes from the Gramma (Grammaticus) of Karnak, who wrote in his book entitled the Cetus attributed to Hatshepsut. He relates how the priest of Hatshepsut had once gone out to search for jewels in an attempt to honor her. While he was away, two mourners had come to pay their respects to the deceased. One of these mourners was the mother of Menes. The other was the sister of Hatshepsut.

According to the gramma, she was waiting at the entrance to the temple when she noticed two women mourning. She goes inside to find her husband Menes who has gone outside to attend to his funeral. There are other additional details regarding the funeral ceremony that were recorded by Hatshepsut's daughter, Akilah. These details include the priest who performed the funeral service and his attire.

Hatshepsut's daughter also provides information about the various items that were used during funerals at Hatshepsut's temple. One of these was a wig which was blue, worn by Menes before his funeral. Another item documented in the grammar is the use of linen as a veil by Menes and his wife before their funerals. The details provided by Akilah also support the inference that Hatshepsut may have owned a temple.

Akilah describes the scene after Menes' funeral. Hatshepsut sits on the edge of the river and is contemplating her fate. Akilah then relates how Hatshepsut was given many tasks by her relatives including looking after the crops for the deceased. Akilah then relates how Hatshepsut mourns for her husband while cleaning the house. It then shows how her sisters mourn for the loss of her husband while Hatshepsut prepares to bathe in the river.

Akilah goes on to relate how her grief over her lost husband prompted her to build a grand funeral pyre for him outside the temple. It is also shown that during the funeral procession Hatshepsut bathes her sister with the blood of her husband. This act is one of the most important rituals performed during funerals in ancient Egypt.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is also another place where many such intricately decorated funerals take place. There are two tombs at the site, which were built around Hatshepsut's husband. A large statue of Hatshepsut, along with an inscription in her honor, can be seen by visitors. The exact location of the Hatshepsut Temple is still unclear, although it is thought to lie on the northwest tip of the Giza plateau.
