Research on health and well-being design Dubai in the built environment examines the positive and negative effects of human-environment interactions. Expertise in the role of the surroundings, in particular the constructed environment, and its effect on human fitness and nicely-being can help enhance humans' excellent existence and offer a sustainable approach to the design and control of our surroundings.

This type of research requires an interdisciplinary approach and a research team including collaborators with backgrounds in environmental psychology, epidemiology, urban planning, architecture, and social psychology. The group works with engineers, designers, and managers to study the impact that the environment that they design and build has on people's experiences and the resulting health and well-being design Dubai.

Aging in place:

Homes and communities can directly support the health and well-being design Dubai by providing environments in which people feel a sense of security, independence, and choice. However, the ability to live at home may be impaired for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly with mobility or functional limitations, or those who experience housing insecurity and are at risk of becoming homeless.

The built environment, through housing design and support for public space, must reflect a desire for local aging by providing opportunities for social participation and engagement. For example, homes with universal design features, including assistive devices and adjustments, allow the elderly to be involved in activities of daily living, thereby promoting autonomy and independence, and eliminating the need for institutional care.

Impact on the Environment:

Concern for the environment and health has been around for a long time. Much of this work focuses on understanding the negative effects of pollutants on the environment and managing air, water, food, and soil in ways that minimize health risks. In addition, recent research is starting to show how the environment supports health and well-being design Dubai, for example by shaping patterns of physical activity and social interaction. As researchers, we are interested in understanding the negative and positive roles that the environment can play in the health and well-being design Dubai.

Health Environment

The health environment should inherently be a place that promotes the health and well-being design Dubai of people. However, the design of the environment can hinder human recoveries, such as sleep-disturbing noise, poor lighting, and bacteria-infected materials and systems.

Staff absence rates and patient recovery times vary by region and work environment due to variations in climate and/or building design. Our research included examining the effect of the emergency department's physical environment on staff fatigue and stress.

Restorative Environment

Everyone needs opportunities to recover from hard work and to reflect on everyday experiences and life. Some environments prove to be more serene than others, such as a good-quality natural environment.

Without access to a serene environment, people's stress levels can increase and overall health and well-being design Dubai will be compromised.  Our research includes exploring ways to measure quiet environments (cortisol as a stress biomarker, EEG brain activity, perceived resting sound scale) and examining the effects of specific environments (cafes, neighborhood green spaces, staff rooms, city parks, water).

Sensory Experience:

Humans perceive the environment with all their senses, so the way of seeing and how the environment is designed is important for creating a healthy sensory experience.

Aspects to consider include acoustic and thermal comfort, smooth surfaces for wheelchair users, and textured surfaces for the visually impaired. Sensory experiences can also enhance the enjoyment of a place through play and encouragement for further interaction, such as sensory gardens and art installations, all of which contribute to increased health and well-being design Dubai.
