Having a pet bird is a lot of fun. You get to watch them play and interact with you, and learn all about what makes them tick! But did you know that birds can get cold just like any other living creature?

Here are some signs that your bird is feeling cold:

  • If your bird's feathers are fluffed up, or if she has her wings stretched out to their full length, she might be feeling cold.
  • If her eyes look dull, she may be cold.
  • Your bird may shiver if she's cold.
  • If your bird's cheeks are pale, this could mean that she's getting too cold.
  • If your bird's beak is closed tightly, it could mean that she's cold.

When Tweety is cold, you can warm her up by placing a small heating lamp near where the bird cage sits but not too close! You can also place some fabric between the lamp and the cage so that no light shines directly on your bird. Or, an infrared heat lamp would be perfect for warming up your feathered friend!

If you have more questions or wish to schedule Tweety for a checkup, please feel free to call us, your local vet clinic Louisville, CO anytime!
