The increasing incidence of various diseases, surging disposable income of people, and the growing public awareness about the therapeutic benefits of essential oils are fueling the demand for aromatherapy services across the world. As per the Holistic Aromatherapy Association (HAA), eucalyptus and clary sage essential oils are used as decongestants and pain relievers, respectively. The organization also found that ginger essential oils are used all over the world for helping in digestion.
Furthermore, as per the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the household disposable income in Denmark and Germany grew from 1.2% and 1.6% in 2014 to 2.8% and 2.5% in 2016, respectively. This has, subsequently, propelled the requirement for aromatherapy services. Moreover, with the increasing per capita income, patients are becoming more willing to experience aromatherapy services in spas and salons for treating conditions such as inflammation, pain, anxiety, stress, and insomnia.
Apart from the aforementioned factors, the various beneficial traits of essential oils such as their non-toxic nature and their suitability for topical use, on account of the fact that they are produced from plants and naturally processed, are fueling the popularity of aromatherapy. Additionally, people around the world are increasingly preferring self-medication for treating pain and common cold. Besides, the rising public awareness about the harmful side effects of pharmaceutical products is also driving the demand for aromatherapy services.
People are also availing aromatherapy for treating burns, as aromatherapy oils are extremely useful for managing and treating burn scars. These oils can either be massaged on the burnt surface or inhaled for treating the scars. Some patients are also using these oils for pain relief. Between aromatherapy consumables and equipment, the demand for the former will rise at a faster rate in the coming years, as per the estimates of P&S Intelligence, a market research company based in India.
Geographically, the demand for these services is predicted to surge in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region in the upcoming years. This is credited to the growing public awareness about the various health benefits of using aromatherapy, increasing import of essential oils, and their soaring production in many APAC countries. In addition to these, the flourishing medical tourism industry is also causing a sharp surge in the demand for aromatherapy in this region.
Hence, it can be said with confidence that the popularity of aromatherapy will soar in the years to come, primarily because of the rising incidence of various diseases and health conditions, increasing disposable income of people, and the growing public preference for alternative treatment procedures across the world.
