Though brushing your dog’s coat can be intimidating, it’s important to get yourself familiar with the correct way of brushing based on your dog’s type of fur and on a regular schedule. The recommended frequency in brushing the coat of your dog, including dogs with coats that are short, is at least every few days.

For breeds that have coats that are high maintenance and likely to mat, like a pure or mix poodle, or those with a double coat, like Great Pyrenees, Sheltie, Husky, Akita, it is best to brush them daily. When brushing them daily, it only requires you a few minutes every day to make their coat in good condition.

For dog breeds that need clipping regularly but you would want to maintain the length of their coat long, you need to make sure that you are doing brushing as scheduled in order to prevent matting from happening. Because if they go in for their scheduled grooming and they have matting already, their coat will be needed to be clipped to a length that is left under that mat, which in most cases is short and so close to the skin.

If it’s difficult for you to keep a brushing schedule regularly in the comfort of your home, you can book a simple brush out session with a lot of groomers, or you can just opt to bath, blow-dry, and brush out services prior to your dog’s full grooming sessions.

Any skin and/or hair coat issue exhibited by your pet should warrant an appointment with your veterinary clinic Burlington, ON.
