RBI Grade B Exam: Stages

The exam is divided into 3 stages:

  • First comes the Prelims round

  • Then, the Mains

  • And finally, the Interview round

Make sure to prepare well for the exam. Do not invest a huge chunk of time to prepare for the prelims as it’s only a qualification round to screen the candidates.

Concentrate more to prepare well for the Mains, as doing so would brighten your chances of scoring above the Mains cut off marks, and moving over to the interview round.

In the end, the marks you receive in only the Mains and the Interview rounds would decide whether you cleared the exam, or not. The prelims are not as important as the other two.

However, this doesn’t mean that the prelims are not important. It’s the first stage you’ll need to clear so that you can move over to the next ones. So, you’ll need to work at least, as hard as one needs to, to score above the prelims cut-offs for the year.

RBI Grade B Phase 1 or Prelims: Subjects, Number of Questions &  Maximum Marks

RBI Grade B Phase 2 or Mains: Subjects, Questions & Marks

The Mains portion of the exam is comprised of 3 subjects, out of which 2 will have objective type questions and one will be of subjective type.

Finance & Management (FM) and Economics & Social Issues (ESI) are the two objective type question papers of the RBI Grade B Mains exam.

The third subject which is the English Descriptive will be the only subjective type out of the three subjects. In this, you’d be asked questions based on reading comprehension, precis and an essay.

Stage 3: The interview

This is the final stage. This round consists of a personal interview based on which you’ll be marked out of a maximum mark of 50. This round is only available to those candidates who have scored significantly above the mains cut-offs. The candidate has the option to choose whether he’d like to have his interview conducted in English or the Hindi language.

The interview comprises a panel of 5 people who mostly ask the candidate questions based on his/her background.
