The amount of light watts needed to grow weeds depends on two things:

1. How many plants you have grown – Each cannabis plant needs at least 1 square foot of space to grow. This allows the plant room to reach its full potential without being obstructed by surrounding plants.

2. Size of growing space – For LED and HID grow lights, the minimum recommended wattage per square foot of space is 50w. For fluorescent it jumps to 150w.

So to calculate the wattage you'll need, you'll need to calculate the square footage of your growing space and multiply that by 50 (minimum recommended wattage per 1 square foot of growing space)

Example: My planting space is 2 feet long and 3 feet wide. Multiply the length and width to get 6 (the square footage of my growing space), then I multiply that number by 50w to get 300w. So the minimum wattage I need for my grow room is 300w.
