How to Choose Reliable GI Earthing Strip Manufacturers for Your Project

An earthing strip is one of those parts nobody thinks about until something goes wrong. It sits buried in the soil, quietly carrying fault current away from your equipment and your people. Then one monsoon a weak strip corrodes through, the earthing resistance climbs, and suddenly you're chasing a fault that a ₹40 saving created three years earlier.

I've watched it happen. So let me save you the trouble.

Here's what actually separates dependable gi earthing strip manufacturers from the ones cutting corners.

Start with the coating, not the price.

A GI earthing strip is only as good as its zinc layer. Ask for coating thickness in microns and check it against IS 2629 and IS 4759 - real hot-dip galvanizing usually gives you 70 microns or more, not the thin flash coating some suppliers pass off as "galvanized." A cheap strip with 20 microns of zinc looks identical on delivery day. Two monsoons later, it doesn't.

Ask for test certificates. Real ones.

Any serious manufacturer hands over mill test reports, coating readings, and ideally salt-spray results without you having to push. If a supplier hesitates or promises to send it "later," treat that as your answer.

Steel grade matters too. The base should conform to IS 2062, and the dimensions - 25x3mm, 50x6mm, whatever your design calls for - need to stay consistent along the full length. I've measured strips that ran 6mm at one end and 5.4 at the other. That variation isn't cosmetic. It quietly changes the current-carrying capacity your electrical consultant designed around.

Now the bigger question.

In-house galvanizing versus outsourced.

This is where a lot of buyers get burned. Plenty of traders relabel bought-in strip and call themselves manufacturers. • Can they prove coating thickness with an actual number?
• Do the certificates arrive without a fight?
• Is the galvanizing theirs, or someone else's?
• Have they supplied a project your size?

None of this is complicated, really. It just gets skipped the moment a lower price is sitting right there, tempting you.

Earthing is safety infrastructure, not a line item to trim. Buy it like you mean it because the ₹40 you save today is never worth the fault you'll be chasing later.
