When you write something on the Word doc, then at that time, you may need to ensure that your document has a particular number of words. In MS Word, it makes it very simple to count the number to words, and you can do it in two ways: first, you can see the status bar at the bottom of the screen and the second is with the help of the Review menu in the ribbon.

Writing something on MS Word will track many things for you, like the number of words, number of characters, number of lines, and much more. In Word, you can quickly get the difference between the numbers of words you write with or without space.

Sometimes maybe you need to know one or the other, but when you have to write some specific number of words, and there is any requirement, then at that time, you should be assumed that it is the total number of characters, including space.

How to Find Character Count in Word?

In Word, finding the number of characters is the same as Windows or a Mac.

  • When you want to count some specific number of the words, then you should select it, but when you want to count all the number of the words which you wrote, then at that time, you must ensure that there will be no selected part.
  • Next, you can click the “Review” tab in the ribbon.
  • On the next screen, you can click “Word Count” in the ribbon.
  • At last, the Word Count dialog box will be popup. It would be best if you cleared the check box when you do not want to count your extra elements with the word count.

How to Find Character Count in the Word with One Click?

When you want to get character count at a single click, you should add Word Count at the Word’s Quick Access toolbar. Word Quick Access is the row of icons mentioned at the top left of the title bar; when you add it, you can check your number of words and number of characters in just a single click without going into the “Review” menu.

  • In MS Word for Windows, firstly, you should click on the “Review” tab and then right-click “Word Count” after that, in the menu, you can click “Add to Quick Access Toolbar.”
  • In MS Word for Mac, firstly, you should click on the down arrow at the right of your Quick Access Toolbar in the Word title bar. On the next screen in the Ribbon & Tool dialog box, you should choose “More Commands” after that, click “Choose Command” from the menu and then select “Review.” Next, you can scroll to the bottom and hit “Word Count” after that, click the right arrow to move it to the “Customize Quick Access Toolbar” list, and at last, hit “Save.”
