It may come as a surprise to hear that your dog's ears are one of the most important parts of his health. They are also one of the most sensitive. If you're not careful, they can get infected and cause your dog a lot of pain.

If you think your dog has an ear infection, here are some things to look out for:

  • If your dog has discharge from one or both ears, or if they shake their head excessively or scratch their ears, these are all symptoms of an ear infection.
  • You may also notice Fido rubbing his face against the floor or furniture. This is a sign that something has a foul odor because bacteria from the secretions have spread to other parts of the body.
  • If your dog starts scratching the side of his face, it could mean he's got something stuck in his ear canal or he's trying to scratch the area that's bothering him.
