Two main types of pictures
There are 2 main categories of picture files you can upload in the Cricut Design Space: Raster pictures and Vector pictures. You must understand the fundamental differences between the two file types, but I promise we will not get too technical or complicated.
Raster Pictures
Raster pictures are basic pictures of tiny dots of color, known as pixels. Digital photos, drawings, and scanned artwork are every type of raster picture. Many free clip art pictures are also raster pictures. Raster pictures end in file extensions such as .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, and .bmp. These pictures are made in programs like Procreate, Photoshop, or Paint. The Raster pictures will be uploaded in the Design Space as a single layer. You can save it as a Print Then Cut picture or a strong cuttable shape to use in other types of Cricut projects.
Vector Pictures
Vector pictures are graphic pictures created with lines, points, and lines. When people talk about SVG, they are talking about Vector pictures. Vector Picture files end in a file extension such as .svg. .eps, or .dxf. These kinds of pictures are made in programs like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. SVG pictures are the most common cut file with the Cricut Design Space. SVG stands for “Scalable Vector Graphic.” It means you can create the SVG picture as big or small as you want without looking pixelated or blurry.
