Jathagam Porutham

‘Jathagam Porutham' is the Tamil terminology that denotes the matching of the horoscopes. It was a time-tested tradition to compare the horoscopes and check for the agreeability between a boy and a girl before deciding to unite in a marital bond. There were 10 such Poruthams which are weighed for the couple's agreeability with each other, and the elders believed that such compatibility, when found, can ensure a good and harmonious life for the two concerned.

The tradition-bound Tamils were particular about ensuring this Jathaga Porutham before fixing a marriage.
