There has been a lot of changes in the way of living of the human being and the way the business is being conducted. The credit needs to be given to the latest technologies and inventions that have made the human effort next to negligible or reduced it to a considerable extent.

In businesses, most of the labour or manpower work has been substituted by Robots and Machines which has resulted in reduced human effort, 100% accuracy, zero errors, higher output, and more business leading to more profits.

In this article, you will get to know how the benefits of using robots have helped the existing businesses to grow and become more efficient.

What is Robots?

In a simple working definition of Robots, we can understand that it is a machine that gathers information about its environment & uses that information to follow instructions to conduct various activities.

There are a variety of robots that are in different sizes, shapes & jobs, some are the household robot and some are industrial robots. Few of them are traditional robots used in factories and others are using artificial intelligence living like creatures and are adaptable to different environments. Examples of robots are TV remotes, vacuum cleaners, washing machines in the residential space, and industries are automated supply chain systems, processing units, attendance systems, car assembling machines, etc.

Why there has been an increase in the demand for Robotics in recent years?

In the last few years, robotics has helped in bringing in the efficiency in the existing process which was missing before and as well as it has led to cost optimization and revenue generation.

Some of the reasons are mentioned below:

  • Miniaturization of the sensory technology – the size of the sensors has reduced but the output has improved to a great level. The cost of these sensors has also become cheaper hence it is not limited to the big corporates and can be also utilized by start-ups.
  • Open-source technology – we all know one such example of the open-source technology that has changed the way, people communicate with each other. The guess is right, that open source technology is none other than the Android operating system which was incorporated by every known brand leaving few like Nokia, where the software was user friendly and all the features or apps that can be downloaded were cheap
  • Rapid prototyping – Rapid prototyping is a physical model that is automatically constructed layer by layer. It is a kind of extra manufacturing process which is used for automatically constructing the 3D physical model with the help of computer-aided design (CAD) model data using automated machines, best example is the 3D printing. Rapid prototyping is an accurate and fast way of manufacturing and the material used for building products with a different design at a cheaper rate.

Technologies like cloud computing, the Internet of things, etc. have led to the automation of the majority of the activities and led to the growth of the organizations.

Will Robotics take away jobs?

There is a reason to be scared as in the past it has been noticed in the USA, the number of jobs that have been replaced by the robot was not compensated by the job generated due to the use of robots. Hence there is a possibility of menial jobs such as cleaning, transportation, etc.

However, in a country like India, the threat is less as our economy is majorly dependent on the service industry and less on the manufacturing one, which as a result the impact of robotics will be less on the jobs and the till know the usage of robotics have supported the existing jobs.

What will be the changes post COVID?

Due to the sudden pandemic resulted from COVID, and the lockdown being initiated in all the countries, many businesses have been suffered and many of the people were laid off from their jobs and as the lockdown continued, existing businesses had to innovate to stay relevant and survive in this scenario.

Those businesses that used digital technologies and have automated their business process to support their business survived and the rest of the business perished, hence those businesses that welcomed new technologies and robotics not only survived but also have made profits during these tough times.

In India, many traditional industries like banking, consumer durables, etc. have started using robotics one way or the other to supplement their existing business which has resulted in better consumer experience and that has also driven demand for the product.

As the demand for robotics has increased, many educational institutes have added robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in their curriculums catering to the increase in the demand for these jobs in both the manufacturing as well as service sectors.
