I am quite new to Instagram. Though I had an account few years back, I deactivated it and stayed away from the platform. The follow-unfollow game there quite irritated me and I found it quite frustrating. I didn’t enjoy it and hence bade adieu to it. But in 2018, I decided to rejoin it. Now, I am not at all bothered about the followers’ count as I have said in this post. And surprisingly once I forgot to check my followers count every day, I am enjoying Instagram and it has been driving traffic to my blogs.

Instagram for Bloggers: 5 Tips to Use It

Instagram has been quite crucial in making friends online this year. And if you are irritated by the followers’ count and the gradual unfollowing bots, here are my tips for you so that you enjoy this amazing platform.

Post only quality pictures

Instagram is a visual site. People are there to see good pictures. So, post your best shots only. Never ever, I repeat, never post a badly shot picture on this platform.

Edit the pictures before you post. I am not talking about using beauty apps but simply using Google Snapseed or a similar app to clear your picture. You can also use the inbuilt Instagram filters before posting any picture.

Use hashtags

Hashtags are the fuel on Instagram. Never post a picture without the relevant hashtags. Though Instagram recommends 30 hashtags, I personally use 10-12 hashtags in every picture. My hashtags change with the picture I posted but I generally use some common hashtags too.

Never use the hashtags in the comment section. Also, there are a few hashtags which are banned by the Instagram. (For example, #babe, #bikinibody #like are banned) So, choose your hashtags carefully.

Pro-tip: How to know if a hashtag is banned or not? Just search the hashtag on Instagram, if there are no pictures under it, the hashtag is banned.

Tell a story with your pictures

A picture says a thousand words. Tell a story with your Instagram feed too. I portray a story with my feed too. I generally post about four themes- food, travel, books and blogging tips. So, every three pictures of my feed are of a particular theme whether it is food, travel, book or blogging. It helps me to organise my feed in a neat order and generally gives an idea to any person about me.

Follow hashtags

If you want to get a general idea of what is going on in your blogging niche, follow the hashtags. This new feature has given the users to follow the hashtag and get updates about latest trend without following hundreds of people every time.

Comment and like

You may have thousands of followers but if nobody likes or comment on your picture, the followers are of no use. Luckily, the only way to ensure it is by commenting and loving other people’s contents. Show some love and they will always reciprocate.

Never unfollow people

If you love someone’s feed, just follow. Do not follow to unfollow once the person started following back. It sends a bad message and degrades your reliability. Show some respect for other bloggers and grow together.

Hope these tips would help you to improve your Instagram experience. Are you irritated by the follow-unfollow game too? Comment below.
