The company OSRS gold has applied for two trademarks in UK, one to “OSRS Gold” and the other for “RS Gold” The filing noting that the company registered that the phrase is used as words. This will likely stop third-party websites from having the ability to market their products as RS Gold.
A simple Google search of the terms results in hundreds of websites most of them having one of these terms in their URL, offering the currency of RuneScape that can be exchanged for real money. The announcement came on the 13th of October that Jagex had put an end to “real-world trading”. In a blog post on its website “The RuneScape Team” stated that “gold bought via RWT real world trading can be a problem in any online game that has a marketable currency.”
Jagex promises to start sending “messages to players that we've identified who are involved within RWT” within “the next few hours”. “For those who have been involved, we want to emphasize that this is your single und only caution,” said the statement.
It was also announced about the game's PvP modes, Duel Arena, would undergo sweeping changes, including the more strict enforcement of the game's rules of conduct to promote positive game play. Jagex claims that the mode “has been a trigger for the shady behavior”.
However, prior to that publishers say that “short-term measures” will be in place “until our development teams can deliver a major update that completely replaces Duel Arena next year.”
