Professional Football Players Association Invites Flexible Workers to December Charity Football Tournament
Professional soccer's K League stars are rallying behind former Jeju United goalkeeper Yoo Yeon-soo, who has been sidelined by a drunk-driving car accident.
The Korea Professional Footballers' Association (KPA), which is hosting the 2023 Second All-Star Charity Soccer Tournament at the Aju University Gymnasium next month, announced on Dec. 16 that it has decided to invite Yoo Yoo-su.
“For Jeju goalkeeper Yoo Yeon-soo, whose dreams of becoming a player were dashed when he was hit by a drunk driver, the entire board of directors of the KFA united to help him rehabilitate,” the organization said.
Yoo Yoo-soo was hit by a drunk driver last year, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, and although he has been working hard on his rehabilitation, he eventually decided to retire after discussions with the club. Shin Young-rok, who was knocked unconscious on the field in 2011, was also invited back to spend a meaningful time with the fans.
“For Yoo Yeon-soo, whose dreams as a soccer player were dashed, the Players' Association will make various efforts to help him rehabilitate,” said Kim Hoon-ki, secretary general of the Players' Association. “The proceeds from this charity match will be used to help Shin Young-rok and Yoo Yeon-soo rehabilitate. We will also prepare a strong message against drunk driving.”
Lee Chung-yong (Ulsan), vice president of the players' association, said, “This is a meaningful event, not only for the sponsorship of Shin Young-rok and Yoo Yeon-soo, but also for the retirement ceremony of a player who has been struggling for the seniors and juniors. I hope that a culture of blessing and sending seniors a second life will be established. We look forward to the fans' interest.” 슬롯사이트
