Bonfire nights can be exciting, especially when the sky is clear.  Warming yourself around a bonfire with good company and watching fireworks can be a blast.  However, the same does not necessarily apply to most pets.

Safe spaces

Fireworks can be enchanting for humans, however, they might be terrifying for our little fur babies.  They should have a safe spot where they can have a sanctuary where they can hide and stay in the middle of all the fireworks displays and noise.  A familiar space and smell should suffice to keep them grounded from the din of noise outside.

Familiarity is important to keep your pet stable and ward off panic episodes.  Pets in general are creatures of habit and dislike change.  It's best to have this spot accessible to your pet so that they won’t feel trapped and increase their stress levels.  Leave them in their safe spot and don’t force them to come out.  They will eventually come out once they get the hang of things.

If you have concerns about your pet health and/or behavior, make an appointment with your vets Portland OR.
