Imagine a crispy sevpuri dunked in a delicious secret sauce, topped with colossal amounts of cheese with a touch of smokiness. Sounds tantalizing and almost like an impossible combination. Apparently not! Swad-Fusion Kitchen has this and many more such cool chaat options on its menu. The popular Mumbai kiosk chain has finally made it to Chennai and the first kiosk is located on Ritherton Road outside Nilgiris.

Their biggest draw is their Panini. Before you wonder, what it is exactly doing in a chaat place, we have to tell you this has nothing to do with bread. It is prepared with sev layered with exotic veggies prepared in secret sauce, mayo, herbs and double cheese. The best part is that it is blow-torched at the end (check out video at the bottom of this article) lending it a lovely smoky flavour and a distinct look. You just can’t miss this one. We also tried the Junglee bhel prepared with farsan, bhel, boondi, mixed veggies, chutney, anar and dhaniya and it was refreshingly crispy and delicious. Another clear winner is Golmaal, masala panipuri stuffed with mixed veggies, sauce and cheese. You pop one in your mouth and wait for the burst of flavours in your mouth.

And if you plan to go as a group, do go in for their Dilkush platter that has nachos, paneer, cheese masala gravy with herbs. Well, it is hugely satisfying and genuinely filling. After all, who doesn’t like loads of cheese, nachos albeit desi style.

Swad-Fusion Kitchen gives their twist to all chaat items and most of these are novel concepts. The menu has items priced as low as INR 35 and most of menu is priced below INR 150.

The master franchise of Swad has been obtained by two young Chennai-based entrepreneurs Sonik Roonwal and Abhinandan Jamad. They are passionate about food and share their plans to open Swad kiosks throughout the city.

As we tuck into their fare, we can’t help but notice the clean counters and the use of eco-friendly disposable cutlery, that makes it a hygienic option to savour chaats. Something, probably we all wish for.
