Mecoprop is an organic general purpose herbicide usually found in many household weed killers and weed-and-feed type yard fertilizers. It is primarily used to prevent broad leaf weeds from taking over the garden. It is frequently used in conjunction with other chemical herbicides, such as MCPA (2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid), dicamba, 2, and 4-D. While commonly used as a pre-treatment, it can also be added as a post-treatment (also with the above mentioned herbicides). Commonly found in landscape and lawn products, it is been proven to be highly effective at controlling perennial and annual broadleaf weed species.

Mecoprop, also known as MCPP (methylchlorophenoxypropionic acid), is also used for post-emergence control of broad-leaved weeds on grass. It can be used on industrial areas, roadsides, sod farms, sports fields, recreational turf, ornamental lawns, and rites-of-ways. It has proven highly effective by providing excellent weed control with little or no injury to turf. Mecoprop is mass-produced commercially and is sold by various trade names; Triamine-II, Mecomin-D, Triester-II, Mecopar, and Kilprop, among others. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified Mecoprop as toxicity class III, slightly toxic.
