Music is an integral part of human life, permeating various facets of our social existence. From movies to soap operas and notably, “copyright free music” in video games. Video games stand out as one of the rapidly expanding cultural institutions of our time, earning their rightful place as a form of art. In this discussion, we will delve into the most popular music in video games that has transcended the confines of the game. Some of these musical pieces have even achieved a popularity surpassing that of the games they originated from.

The Last Of Us

The Last Of Us was released in 2013 exclusively on the Playstation 3. The game has won many awards which include awards like Best Game, Game of the Year, Best Sound, etc. The game has won many awards over the 3-4 years since the release of the game itself, which gives us a sense of what the game may still be one of the most famous and beloved to this day after 9 years. But there's a funny thing that the music for the game itself has even become more popular in some ways than the game itself. We have Gustavo Santaolaglia to thank for that. Gustavo Santaolaglia-Argentine musician, composer and producer, two times winner of Oscar for Best Score and BAFTA.

It was he who made the musical accompaniment to the game, which is remembered by everyone who is not even familiar with the games at all. The tune itself is very catchy and beautiful in sound. It has won several awards as the best music accompaniment. Upon hearing it, you can immediately feel what is happening in the game. The zombie apocalypse, the people are plunged into darkness and it brings a melancholy that is shrouded in a little hope for a brighter future.

Doom

All lovers of true Hard Rock can already be welcomed here. The Doom series dates back to 1993, developed by ID Software. The very first game is already remembered by everyone with a rather interesting and dynamic tune, which after hearing it almost 30 years later you will realize that it is something else, like Doom. After the release of the 3rd part in 2004, the series was waiting for a lull. The 3rd part did not find the high hype like the first two, which probably led to some pause.

It wasn't until 12 years later in 2016 that the 4th installment of the Doom series was released. To say that everyone was pleasantly surprised by this game-nothing to say. The game was a great success, but Doom would not be Doom, if the game would not have made a dynamic and harsh music to match what is happening in it. And you can highlight just one soundtrack, which can be called a calling card of Doom. BFG Division, a tune that was able to win the hearts of even the people of pop music! The soundtrack itself has a very hard metal and beautifully conveyed the dynamics of what is going on. At the moment it can be called one of the most popular musical accompaniment in the gaming industry.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

The Witcher-This is a book by Andrzej Sapkowski in the fantasy genre. The first book was published in 1986, where the time period is based on medieval Europe in the 12th and 13th centuries. The Witcher combines the folklore, fairy tales and mythology of almost all Slavic peoples. One may be surprised at how competently the mythology of the western, eastern, and southern Slavs is conveyed. The main character in the book is Geralt the Rivian mercenary, who fulfills orders with the destruction of monsters. In the future, the book will be made into a trilogy of video games. For the development is taking over the Polish company CD Project Red, and in 2007 we are expecting the first part of the game. Everyone was quite pleasantly surprised this game, as well as the second part, but it was after the 3rd part, which was released in 2015, that the saga of the witch became really popular.

Part 3 won many awards, one of which is Best Game of that decade. And of course for the Slavic mythology the music was also created. In The Witcher itself, not just one tune is popular, but an entire collection of tunes. Marcin Przybylowicz, Mikolaj Stroinski and Percival are to be thanked for the collection of tunes. Their works were nominated as the best soundtrack at The Game Awards 2015. The most popular tunes from the compilation (or the unofficial titles) are Silver for monster and Steel for Humans. They perfectly convey the atmosphere of 12th-13th century Europe, as well as the whole Slavic mythology and atmosphere of Slavic folklore.
