I spent five days in Isla Mujeres, and that was my second destination after Cancun. I wanted to spend a few quiet days after all the stress of the last weeks preparing my great trip.
So I decide to book a hotel in Isla Mujeres and enjoy a few days of Caribbean and peace.
I must say that I had days left, with three it would have been more than enough and this is what I advise as much if someone wants to visit the beautiful island knowing some of its corners.
Arriving is very easy, from Puerto Juarez in Cancun ferries depart every half hour for a price of 300 pesos (equivalent to about 15 USD) round trip (round trip), you can use the return whenever you want.
And if you want to do it lower cost, you can go a little further to Puerto Sam, there a car ferry also carries passengers and it is much cheaper! from there it costs 40 pesos just one way
And what we are going to! I show you in this post what I consider essential for me after my days on that beautiful island of the Mexican Caribbean:
Visit North Beach
One of the most beautiful beaches in the world! That really impresses. White sand, turquoise water, palm trees … Like a postcard! It is worth it and much to know it, walk it and enjoy it without haste.
Sunsets
Essential! Very special to see the pink sky over the Caribbean. And here I want to highlight two:
Visit Hotel Casa de los Sueños
This was the hotel where I stayed is not very economical but it has many activities to do and also it is located in front of the Beach, by the way it has a wall to do climbing
Craft market
If the visit to the island matches you on a Thursday, do not miss this little market that is placed where the House of Culture. Precious crafts Live music and very, very good atmosphere!
South Point
From end to end of the island they are about eight kilometers, if you stay near Playa Norte you can reach Punta Sur:
* Renting a golf cart. The way in which many move, for my taste too expensive!
* Renting a bike.
* You can take a taxi, (my advice is that before doing so you ask a villager how much he should charge you, there is a set price, but they usually “abuse” charging tourists more than the bill).
* And as a last option you can do like me, walking! Of course, it takes a lot of water for the road if you go to the central hours of the day, you will become dehydrated! But it can be done, I've done it!
It is worth seeing the cliffs of Punta Sur, in the Garrafón park there is the temple of the goddess Ixchel, Mayan goddess of fertility, love, the moon, the rainbow.
Right on that tip is the first place that the sun sets its rays every day. With what, if you want to get up early, you can also see a spectacular sunrise between cliffs and the Caribbean.
If you want tranquility, you can visit any beach other than the North, on the way to Punta Sur you will find many places where you will share your peace only with seagulls.
They are more rocky and open sea beaches. It's worth spending a little while there!
And finally, I recommend just throwing yourself in a hammock, entering palm trees, in peace, without noise, just with you and your thoughts. Because, for a reason, we are in the Caribbean, right?
