Anime fans are no stranger to Yu Yu Hakusho and its legacy. Yu Yu Hakusho is a hit manga series from the 90s and one of the best anime adaptation series by Studio Pierrot. To revive the classic once again, Netflix announced a live-action adaptation, and here is everything you need to know about it.

Earlier, NX on Netflix and Netflix Japan shared similar posts revealing an upcoming live-action adaptation on their Twitter account. The Twitter account reads, “When Yusuke dies saving another’s life, he’ll embark on a journey across the world of humans, spirits, and demons to return to the land of the living. Yoshihiro Togashi’s legendary manga Yu Yu Hakusho will be a live action series on Netflix!”

According to the sources, the new Netflix Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series will be produced by Kaata Sakamoto, who has made many live-action series in his career, like The Naked Director, Rilakkuma to Kaorusan, and Alice in Borderland. The producer of Ohsugi Tantei jimusho: Kudakareta Kako, Akira Morii will also be joining Kaata Sakamoto for the new Yu Yu Hakusho live-action adaptation.

About Yu Yu Hakusho

Yu Yu Hakusho is a classic Japanese manga written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. Yu Yu Hakusho ran for four years with 19 volumes from December 1990 to July 1994. In 1992, Noriyuki Abe, alongside Fuji Television and Studio Pierrot, directed the anime adaptation, which aired on Fuji Television from October 10, 1992, to January 7, 1995.

Yu Yu Hakusho follows the story of the 14-year old delinquent Yuusuke Urameshi. One fateful day, Yuusuke Urameshi sacrifices his life while saving a boy from a car accident. Upon this sacrifice, the gods ask Yuusuke if he wants to turn his life around and join the Spirit Detective force to help the gods to wipe evil off the earth.

Yu Yu Hakusho, who has no choice, agrees to the contract. With his ex-rivals Kazuma Kuwabara, Jaganshi Hiei, and Yoko Kurama, Yuusuke Urameshi starts his new journey as a Spirit Detective in the human and monster realm.

Yu Yu Hakusho legacy

Yu Yu Hakusho also received two feature movies by Studio Pierrot and was released in the theatre in 1993. The first movie Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie, released in 1993, and the second movie, Yu Yu Hakusho the Movie: Poltergeist Report, was released in 1994 and was later dubbed in the English language and distributed in North America by Anime Works and US Manga Corps.

Conclusion

The official Twitter account of both NX on Netflix and Netflix Japan shared the same tweet, but none of the accounts have confirmed the release date. It is wise to stay put and wait for an official update from Netflix.
