The organic lifestyle means consuming things without pesticides, antibiotics, and other potential toxins present in conventional meat products. On the contrary, seeking out organic meat is good to do if you care about the quality of life of livestock just as much as you want to enjoy consistent taste profiles throughout each meal – grass fed or otherwise – so long as no harm is being done. But it's also important to know that grass fed meat can be free from harmful chemicals while still being non-organic.

In other words, you can choose to go organic with your meat or grass fed, but it's not an all-or-nothing choice. For example, there is both a certified organic and grass-fed option in most Sunshine Coast markets. Still, there is always traditional produce available for those who prefer a less expensive option! So it is really up to you to decide which combination of organic and grass-fed you prefer.

So, the next time you're choosing between packages of beef mince, here's what we'd suggest. Firstly, decide what health and flavour profiles you're looking for. For flavour, use a grading scale that rates beef on levels of tenderness where you can buy 100% grass fed beef move up to a 90% grass feed mix that has been finished off on grain or 90% grain fed beef moves down to 73% grain feed and the highest form in feed (just because it's organic doesn't mean it'll have more flavour generally). When buying organic, ensure there is minimal to no pesticides used and antibiotics as they are not allowed in organic farming/fishing. Also, look for certification labels that can help you identify the strict rules that the producer followed before labelling the meat “organic” and “grass fed.”
