Grooming is a very important aspect of pet care. Regular grooming not only helps maintaining good health of your pets, it also helps you bond with them. Keep reading for ways to keep your pets clean and healthy.

Brushing

Brushing and combing should be done daily or at least several times a week, no matter what kind of coat the pet has. Ensure to give them a good brushing before the bath.

Brushing and combing makes the pet feel good. It helps in removing the dead hair and tangles and distributes the natural skin oil. If your pet has a thick coat, make sure to comb to the skin, gently and patiently. Too much pressure while combing can cause irritation and pulling the tangles will hurt the pet.

Use a detangler on the dry hair to loosen the knots, if any. Also, note that there are different types of brushes available for different fur types. For instance, a curved sticker or pin brush is for a long and straight coat, and the regular wire slicker can be used on medium length hair and those with a dense undercoat. You may also use the rakes for brushing the undercoats of the pet during their shedding season. Use brushes with a grooming mitt or rubber curry on short, smooth coats.

Bath

Animals lose interest in bathing if cold water is used. Water must be warm even during summer. Support the smaller animals in a tub so that they won’t panic. Give them body massage while lathering the shampoo and rinse well with the warm water. Use conditioner, if required and comb through the coat before the final rinse.

Ensure to dry the animals completely especially during colder climate to prevent them from chilling.

Nail Clipping

Long nails can cause permanent damage to toes when it bends into an unusual position. Be very gentle and patient with the pet while clipping. Start the clipping of the nail from the foot. When you are clipping, make sure to observe for the end of blood supply and ensure to avoid cutting too deep. If clipping goes wrong, it will be painful and will bleed. Dewclaws also should be trimmed.

To ensure the pet to support clipping, start by trimming one nail on each foot a day and then, appreciate and reward it with its favourite snacks. This will help your pet to get relaxed and support the process.

Pets with hooves should be taken to the professionals for routine foot care.

Ears

Ensure to check the ears of pets regularly and clean them from any debris. Give the pet a nice ear rub and a gentle massage. This helps in making a great bonding. Start the cleaning of the ears by dampening the cotton ball on the ear cleaner and wipe the folds of the skin. Clean near the head and clean outside to the ends of the ear flaps. Never use cotton swabs as it might end up reaching too deep into the ear and may cause damage.

Ensure to use the cleaner that does not cause an allergic reaction to the pet. Ensure to check for any reactions on the pet by applying a little amount. Take an appointment with the doctor if you find the ears dirty, smell bad, or have any sore. All of these could result due to infection or parasites.

Ensure to spend a little time every day to pet them and enjoy the time. If you need any help with pet grooming let us know. Mobile Dog Grooming offer complete pet grooming at your doorstep.
