If you are like me, you have had your fair share of cracking your phone screen. There is nothing worse than seeing your phone make the slow fall to the ground and then having to dreadfully pick it up to see if the screen has cracked or not. Around 5,761 phone screens are cracked every hour. This leads to over 50 million phone screens having to be fixed every year which costs consumers about $3.4 billion every year.

Newer smartphones on the market are only getting more intricate. This means the cost of the screen repair is only getting more expensive. Accidents happen….you may accidentally knock your phone off the counter or drop your phone out of your pocket. Dropping your phone may not always be preventable but cracking your phone screen can be. In today’s blog, I am going to give you some tips on which screen protector you should get to protect your screen.

Protecting your Screen

A preventative measure you can buy to protect your phone is a screen protector. A screen protector protects your phone screen from cracking and accumulating scratches. When you drop your phone, a screen protector absorbs the impact and shock of the drop instead of your phone. This prevents, most of the time, the actual screen from cracking or shattering.

Not only does it protect your screen from cracking, but it also prevents your screen from getting scratch marks on it. You specifically want to look for a protector that has an anti-scratch rating of ‘9H’ as this is the industry standard. This will protect your actual screen from getting scratched. If your screen protector gets too scratched up, you can always buy a phone replacement screen protector to make the screen clear again.

Plastic Screen Protector

There are a variety of screen protectors to choose from such as glass, plastic, or liquid. A plastic screen protector is not as protective as a tempered glass or liquid protector. Plastic screen protectors also are not as smooth and clear as tempered glass or liquid protectors. Typically, plastic screen protectors are cheaper; however, they are not as durable as other options, which, in the long run, could cost you more money to replace or fix your phone screen.

A perk of a plastic screen protector is that they can be reused. If you take off the plastic screen, you can reapply it; however, plastic screen protectors scratch easier than liquid and tempered glass, so you may not want to reuse the plastic protector. Plastic screen protectors are only about .01 mm in thickness. This means that scratches are more noticeable. Also, the thin screen does not absorb the impact of drops as well which can cause your actual screen to become damaged more often than a tempered glass or liquid.

Tempered Glass

A tempered glass screen protector is 5 times stronger than normal glass. Tempered glass has multiple layers including shatter-proof film, oleophobic nano coating, and penetrable silicon coating. The oleophobic coating helps prevent excessive fingerprints and smudges on your phone and it makes your screen easier to wipe off  and clean. Compared to the liquid and plastic screen protectors, tempered glasses are stronger and can withstand drops and scratches better.

A typical glass screen protector is .3 to .5 mm in thickness compared to plastic which is only about .1 mm. Although the glass screen protector will make your phone a little thicker, it will absorb the shock of a drop better than the plastic. If you do crack your phone or tempered glass, glass shards will not stick up or fly around. This is due to the anti-shatter film in one of the layers of the protector.

A glass screen protector also gives your phone a more natural feel to the actual screen than the plastic screen protector. Plastic screen protectors are not as scratch resistant as glass protectors. The glass screen protector are more durable and lasts longer which means you do not have to spend as much money buying a replacement protector or fixing your screen.

Liquid Screen Protector

A liquid screen protector consists of a nano liquid technology and is basically liquid glass. Liquid screen protectors have a bottom layer of absorbent silicon, combined with PET film, and oleophobic coating on top. To apply the liquid screen protector, you put a few drops of the liquid glass on the screen and then smooth it over with the designated cloth.

Liquid screen protectors are usually thinner than the tempered glass screen protectors. This makes your phone less thick and smoother compared to the tempered glass. Due to the thinness of the liquid screen protector, it does not withstand drops and scratches as well as the tempered glass, but is still a good form of protection for your phone.  and iphone Camera repair

Liquid screen protectors are also more versatile. Unlike a tempered glass, you do not need to buy a specific sized protector for your device. The liquid screen protector can be applied to any sized device.
