Section-Specific Tips That Move Scores Faster

Fluency matters more than a perfect accent. The PTE AI scores rhythm, flow, and continuity , not native-sounding pronunciation. If you make a small pronunciation error, keep going. Stopping and restarting lowers your fluency score more than the original error would have.

Writing
Your Write Essay score depends heavily on having a clear thesis from the first sentence. After the August 2025 updates, Pearson uses expanded trait-based rating for essays , coherence and task relevance are scored alongside grammar and vocabulary.
Pearson allocates 10 minutes per Summarise Written Text item and 20 minutes for Write Essay. These are fixed timers. Know the limits before you practice.
Pearson's range is 5 to 75 words, but responses must be a single complete sentence. Most trainers recommend 35 to 55 words as a practical target. Capture the main idea and one supporting point.
Reading
Fill in the Blanks tasks , both Dropdown and Drag-and-Drop , are the highest-scoring tasks in this section. Vocabulary in context and understanding of grammar patterns are what determine performance here. Academic word lists, particularly the AWL (Academic Word List), are worth working through during your course.
For Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers only, negative marking applies. Wrong selections deduct a point. If you are not confident, leave that option unselected. For Multiple Choice, Single Answer, there is no penalty, so always select an answer even when unsure.
Listening
Write from Dictation is one of the highest-value tasks in the entire exam. Practise it daily. The sentences are short but you must spell every word correctly. Even one error costs you points.

Use Mock Tests the Right Way

Step 1: Note every question type where you scored below your target.
Step 2: Work out why you missed it. Did you not understand the task format, or was it a vocabulary or grammar gap? Time pressure?
Step 3: Focus the next three to five days of practice specifically on those question types.
Step 4: Do not run another full mock test until you have addressed the gaps from the previous one.
A few well-reviewed mock tests will do more for your score than ten tests run back to back without any analysis
