English language proficiency test is necessary for all students planning to move to Australia for higher studies, work, or permanent residency. The English language proficiency score ensures the universities your ability to communicate in English smoothly. Further, it ensures that you can take up any course with English as a primary language. The Pearson Test of English or PTE exam is one such test that evaluates your reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills in English.

The pattern of the PTE exam is created to see whether you can study at international institutions or not. In the exam, students need to prove their capabilities of understanding, reading, listening, speaking, and writing in English in a foreign country through a minimum required PTE score. Likewise, the PTE exam structure is same as many other English testing examinations, depending on which students prepare for the exam.

Types of PTE Exam

The PTE tests are bifurcated in two main types:

  • PTE Academic — if you are planning to pursue your studies or work in a developed country like Australia, you will require taking the PTE Academic test.
  • PTE General — if you are planning to apply for Permanent Residence – PR in Australia, you will require taking the PTE Academic test. In addition, this test will help to know you where you stand in the level of English proficiency.
